The Stack and Tilt Golf Swing – What Does That Mean?

There has been a lot of talk over the past few years about the so-called stack and tilt golf swing. Apparently about two dozen PGA Tour players have adopted it, including some champions like Rick Weir and Zach Johnson, as well as Aussie Aaron Baddeley, among others. This article will explain where the terms stack and tilt come from and what is going on with this approach to the golf swing.
So What’s With “Stack and Tilt”?
It is really a catchy little phrase that has worked well for the people who promote and teach it. If you are like I was, you are asking yourself, “what is stacking and what is tilting”? Well, here’s an explanation I found while viewing some videos in trying to search for an answer. And by the way the answer is not obvious, in case you are wondering why you can’t figure it out for yourself.
Here’s the deal- the stack and tilt golf swing basically says that most of the golfer’s weight should be kept on his left side during the swing (about 60%), and also that the player’s head should remain pretty much in the same position throughout the swing rather than swaying backwards. His left side should not move backwards much during the backswing but should stay pretty much in the same position it was during set up. In addition, his swing is a bit more upright than flat.
So what does that have to do with stack and tilt? Not much, but here’s the explanation I found. When the golfer has completed his backswing using the guidelines mentioned, his shoulders are vertically in line with each other approximately over his left hip. So his shoulders are said to be “stacked” at that point. (All discussion in this article refers to a right handed player, so lefties just need to reverse things.) Also, at this point the golfer’s back is more or less facing the target, and if his head has been kept in the same place it was at the start of the swing, his spine will necessarily “tilt”.
So there you have it, stack and tilt. If you think that explanation is a bit obscure, I couldn’t agree more, but then again, who cares? It is a catchy little phrase, and the fact that this swing has been adopted by some of the PGA Tour’s top players means that it must be bringing something to the party. Let’s discuss now why this approach has been adopted and if it should be used by weekend golfers like you and me.
Why Players Go to the Stack and Tilt
A lot of swing instructors teach that during the backswing it is OK for the head to move backwards a bit, or sway, especially for the driver. Some of these teachers even advocate keeping the head behind the ball to generate more power. The problem with this approach is that sometimes a player cannot fully transfer his weight to the left side at impact, and the club strikes the ball with the face open. Obviously this means a pushed shot to the right. All this is true with the other clubs in the bag as well, not just the driver. So if you are a player who seems to consistently push shots off to the right, this approach might be worth a try.
Who Should Not Use the Stack and Tilt?
As we all know, some recreational golfers don’t have the prettiest or the most effective swings (to put it in the form of understatement). Some in fact keep way too much of their body weight on the left side as it is. So here you have some players that already have too much weight on the left side and who cannot get through the ball squarely at impact. Trying to exaggerate this even more will not help those golfers. So you have to be aware of your weight distribution at set-up, how squarely you get through the ball, and whether you are prone to pushing shots.
Give it a Shot
So if you are in fact a golfer that has a problem with pushing a lot of shots, it is easy to give this swing approach a try. Don’t worry about “stacking” and “tilting”, just address the ball with about 60% of your weight on your left side. Imagine there is a stick or something touching your left hip at address. Keep you left side touching that stick throughout the swing, and you have just tried the stack and tilt. Think about not moving your head backward during the backswing, and this will help. Try it on the range first, of course, and develop a little muscle memory. Despite the name, the stack and tilt is not a big mystery and is easy to try.

Author: Dr Kang Isla
Fort Lauderdale sport fishing is one of the area’s biggest tourism generators.
Fort Lauderdale sport fishing is one of the area’s biggest tourism generators. Because Fort Lauderdale and its nearby suburbs provides both saltwater and freshwater fishing, anglers can enjoy a deep sea experience, leisurely fly fishing or even bottom fishing.
Because sport fishing is so popular in Fort Lauderdale, you won’t have a hard time locating a charter boat or fishing guide company. However, for the most current information on prices, quality companies and pier locations, try the resources below.
The International Game Fish Association World Fishing Center
Probably the best resource at the World Fishing Center are the on-site librarians who can offer you a complete list of highly recommended and IGFA (International Game Fish Association) endorsed fishing guides and boat captains. The complex also houses a 3-acre park, library, museum and a state-of-the-art fishing simulator.
You can reach the IGFA headquarters at 1-954-927-2628 or contact the World Fishing Center directly at 1-954-922-4212 or online at igfa.org. The library and museum are open daily from 10 am to 6 pm.
Fort Lauderdale’s Hall of Fame Marina
The Hall of Fame Marina, on Seabreeze Boulevard, is full of captains and charter fishing companies, all clamoring for your Fort Lauderdale sport fishing business. Going down to take a look lets you inspect the boats in person, develop a rapport with local captains and often garner a better price.
Fort Lauderdale’s Pier 66
The Pier 66 Marina is another hot spot for charter fishing boats. So, take a stroll down SE 17th Street and visit the boats, meet the crews and negotiate a price. If you’re still unsure, try asking at the IGFA or even your hotel concierge desk for a recommendation.
Hillsboro Inlet Charter Fleet
Trusted by Fodor’s, Frommer’s and Forbes Traveler, the Hillsboro Inlet Charter Fleet has built a strong reputation for high-quality fishing charters that get results. The company has over 12 vessels, each specifically designed for pompano, sailfish, marlins and even shark. To make a reservation or an inquiry, contact them at (954) 943-8222.
Average Prices and Charter Rates
Your average bottom fishing boat trip will cost around $40 to $60 for a half-day trip, but that usually includes your basic fishing equipment and bait. Expect to pay more for a private charter, which usually ranges from $350 for a half day to about $600 for a full-day.
Nearby cities and municipalities like Dania Beach, Pompano Beach, Lauderdale by the Sea and Deerfield Beach also offer free or very reasonably priced fishing piers for anglers who prefer a more relaxed, Fort Lauderdale sport fishing experience. Most also offer visitors rod-and-reel rentals for less than $10 a day.

Best golf courses in Wales
Author: Darren Warmuth
If you live in Wales, or if you’re vacationing there, you might want to go golfing.
If you live in Wales, or if you’re vacationing there, you might want to go golfing. There are all kinds of courses that you can play on, but to really have a great time you need to locate the best golf courses in Wales. There are an amazing one hundred and seventy-six golf courses located within Wales. The Ryder Cup will take place there in 2010, so that’s bringing a lot of prestige to the area and causing a lot of individuals to make their golf courses better than they ever were before. By doing this, they are also seeing increased revenue and attracting more customers to play. Don’t think that only the largely-advertised golf courses are the good ones, though, because Wales has a lot of hidden gems that you can find – some of them nine-hole courses – if you take the time to do a little research. Some people don’t really care that much where they play golf, but others know that the quality of the course has a lot to do with how well they play and how much fun they have at that time.
For people who are serious golfers, finding the best courses can sometimes be a bit of a game or a competition. They want to tell others about the great course that ‘they found’ while they were out, and they want to take others there and show it off as if they had personally designed it. Whether you’re as serious as these golfers or just looking for a great place to learn a new skill, picking the right course can make or break whether you’ll be back again and can also affect your enjoyment level and your score. Golf courses should be challenging based on how they are laid out, not based on the problems that are seen with them.

Bodybuilding Programme for Athletes
Author: Amy Nutt
If you have been training to gain muscle for awhile you may find yourself getting bored with the monotony of lifting weights.
If you have been training to gain muscle for awhile you may find yourself getting bored with the monotony of lifting weights. The basic fact is that training in a gym with heavy weights several times per week can take its toll on your motivation.
To prevent this problem it is important to get back to the root of why so many of us began training in the beginning: to enhance your athleticism. Sure you’ve always wanted to look great, but performing great is also a part of the equation.
So if you have been stuck with a one-dimensional focus on building muscle it may be time to include some workouts for athleticism into your routine. Combining the pursuit of muscle mass and the pursuit of athleticism is what is known as athletic bodybuilding. Not only is it fun, it may also help you to gain more muscle in the long run.
1. Learn basic motor patterns
One of the keys to enjoying sports is knowing how to play them, at least at an intermediate level. For this reason it is highly suggested that you be proficient in a few basic sports skills. Namely, throwing, hitting, kicking, and catching.
Even if you happen to be good at one sport, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are good at a different sport. So if you already know how to hit a baseball then why not try golf or tennis to expand your skills? Or if you know how to throw a baseball then why not try throwing a football or shooting a basketball?
If you haven’t had much practice with these skills in the past then they may be hard at first, but nothing improves your athleticism like learning a new skill.
2. Learn gymnastics
Similar to the above, tumbling is a great skill to learn if you don’t know how to do it already. It builds kinesthetic awareness and explosiveness that transfer over to sports and to the weight room. I have found that gymnasts are often the quickest learners in the weight room because they understand how to move their bodies due to their tumbling experience.
Start with simple moves like somersaults and cartwheels before progressing to more advanced moves like handsprings and flips. If you really want to improve your skills it is highly advised that you utilize the services of a qualified gymnastics coach.
And I know you may be saying, “I’m a grown man, there is no way I’m doing this.” But that is exactly the close-minded mentality that makes training boring and leads to stagnation in your gains.
3. Build your base
If you have been strength training for any significant period of time then there is a decent chance that you are already sufficiently strong enough to execute most sports skills on an intermediate level. But if you have been avoiding endurance work in pursuit of more muscle then you might be limited in your sporting capacity.
There are many scientific workout plans that can greatly enhance your sport-specific endurance, but the simplest solution is simply to undertake a simple cardiovascular training program and to play your sport on a regular basis. This will slowly allow you to develop at least a basic level of endurance.
Remember that training doesn’t have to be boring. Being athletic and muscular are not mutually exclusive. Use these tips and you will be on your way to building a more athletic body, and that is what athletic bodybuilding is all about.

Bodybuilding Programme for Athletes
Your Perfect Body Building Diet
Author: Gene Young
Carbohydrates, extra protein and essential minerals are the basic components of a body building diet; and though subject to large debates, an athlete’s nutritional schemes also includes lots of supplements, or the so-called super food. Furthermore, fat is another important part of a body building diet, therefore, here are some guiding principles for those who practice weight training.
If you don’t adjust the meals to the proper body requirements you won’t get the much wanted results, and balance is the key concept of a body building diet; should you eat only carbohydrates the amount of accumulated energy will be nil. On the other hand, having protein without the carbohydrates, you won’t be able to process the nutrients.
Therefore a combination of all the main nutrients and the right quantity of each makes the perfect body building diet and ensures muscle size increase. To express the best body building diet in percentages would be to say that you need 40% carbohydrates, 40% protein and only 20% fat. When it comes to the level of calories that a body building diet should include, here are also some general recommendations that are worth following.
Specialists say that athletes should alternate low and high calorie intakes; according to a nutritional plan, one should have two weeks of low caloric food, followed by another two of high caloric level. During the more intense periods of activity, the diet has to be adjusted to the precise needs of the moment.
The carbohydrates consumed as part of a body building diet should not overpass a specific level, since the more carbs you eat, the more insulin the pancreas secrets. An abundance of carbohydrates results in extra weight, so there is quite a thin line that could be passed. Insulin will use the amino-acids in food to strengthen and repair the muscle cell, therefore a body building diet should include a well-determined amount of carbohydrates.
The same conversion into fats appears when you overdose the protein intake, since proteins are actually the ones responsible for the building of tissue and muscle size. During a weight training program, the body building diet needs to be under constant monitoring.
Thus, the body metabolism is stimulated with every protein intake you have, not to mention that proteins are also responsible for the releasing the energy resulted from the processing of carbohydrates.
Last but not least, another equally important element of a body building diet are fats. Without their presence in the food, joints wouldn’t receive proper lubrication, the hormonal production would stop and a whole chain of chemical reactions would be interrupted.
Keep in mind that a healthy metabolism needs fats too, all cells in the body include some fat; without it there is no testosterone production. Remember this is the hormone that is responsible for the increasing the muscle mass. Follow a body building diet and results will appear shortly!

The Keys to Junior Golf Success

As a golf performance coach, I’ve seen many changes in the junior golf world over the past twelve years. The main difference is in the level of competition. The popularity of junior golf has made it far more challenging to get scholarships to colleges for golf. At one point, not too long ago, good grades and the ability to post 80 could get you into plenty of good schools (especially girls).
Not the case anymore.
Junior golf has become fiercely competitive. The vast majority of the kids I work with do not have the luxury of spending years at the top golf school academies. This can sometimes make them feel discouraged, as if they don’t stand a chance against the “privileged” kids.
I am quick to teach them that there are plenty of good instructors all over the country, even at small local courses.
Plus, there are three key areas where they can often make up a tremendous amount of ground on the kids with all the monetary advantages.
1) The mental game – The pros estimate that their success is 60-90% mental. The same goes for junior golf. I specialize in alternative methods such as energy psychology, NLP and hypnosis.
2) Golf Fitness – A workout designed specifically for golf and the individual golfer is crucial for long term success. Seek out a professional trainer who trains golfers as athletes and performs a through assessment before designing a fitness program.
3) Nutrition – proper food and drink before and during a round will ensure sustained energy and focus. While the other kids are eating fast food and guzzling sodas, those with an optimal diet will always be prepared for peak performance.
While good swing instruction and dedicated practice are essential, the above three keys to junior golf success can go a long way to leveling the playing field for all of our kids.

Guide To Buying a Second Hand Snowboard
Author: Lionel Weathers
Other than making sure you buy a snowboard that is right for your height, weight, feet size, riding style and ability, there are few other things to look out for when searching for a second hand snowboard . Check the top/deck for any visible damage
Other than making sure you buy a snowboard that is right for your height, weight, feet size, riding style and ability, there are few other things to look out for when searching for a second hand snowboard.
Check the top/deck for any visible damage. Delamination of the top-sheet can often be repaired but damage to the exposed fibreglass or even to the core of the board is not as easily rectified.
Make sure you remove the bindings from the board before you buy as they can sometimes be hiding cracks or other damage. Likewise, always ask that stickers are removed for the same reason. Inspect the holes where the bindings attach and if you can, test the screw fittings to make sure they have not been threaded or damaged in another way. There is nothing worse than getting a board home to find that your bindings cannot be attached due to damaged screw fittings.
The metal edges running around the outside of the boards should be in good condition. Any rounding or burring of the edges is usually easy to fix in any good shop but deep gouges are best avoided. Likewise, edges that are very thin suggest the board has been serviced many times and it may be nearing the end of its life.
When inspecting the base of the board, be wary of cracks or deep cuts as these are difficult to repair. Scratches and scrapes are a certainty with a used board but they’re usually just cosmetic and won’t affect the ride. Depending on the style of board, it should also have a good camber and be responsive when pressure is applied. Place the board on a flat surface and you should find that the nose and tail make contact, whilst the middle of the board should have some ground clearance. Some boards are designed to be stiff or have minimal camber, but unresponsive or flat boards can often suggest the core has lost a lot of its life.
Snowboards will naturally pick up imperfections here and there but most are superficial and can be restored. More serious damage however should be considered carefully before buying as the ride may be inhibited and potentially dangerous.

More Freedom with Your Golf Club

Believe it or not, the simple act of a deep breath – when done properly – instantly releases tension from your body and allows you to achieve the fluid and effortless swing of the top tour players, with any golf club in your bag.
Most golfers know that there is a calming benefit to breathing deeply, and many attempt to do so during stressful situations on the course.
The problem is that almost nobody knows how to take a deep breath.
Most people have learned to breathe in a shallow and ineffective way, and can gain significant benefits from practicing what is called “diaphragmatic breathing”.
First, a quick test to find out your current situation:
While standing, place your right hand on your chest and your left hand on your stomach.
Next take a deep breath and notice which direction each of your hands move.
It is most common to find that your right hand (the one on your chest) moves upwards, while your left hand (on your stomach) moves inwards towards your spine,
If this happened to you, it means that you are actually taking a shallow “chest breath”, and only using one-third of your potential breathing capacity. This can actually increase tension and stress in your body, especially in the small muscles of the neck, shoulders and hands. This can cause you to grip your golf club too tightly and over-swing.
The solution – diaphragmatic breathing.
It’s actually quite easy.
Once again, place your right hand on your chest and your left hand on your stomach.
Now this time as you inhale, keep your right (chest) hand still, and allow the air to fill up and expand in your stomach (left hand moving away from the spine).
It is sometimes helpful to imagine your stomach as a balloon, and as you inhale the air inflates the balloon.
Only after the “abdomen balloon” is filled do you allow the chest to expand and fill with air.
Hint: Watch small children, as they have not yet “unlearned” this natural breathing process and can be excellent role models for you.
As you exhale simply allow all tension to release from your body and mind.
Although it may take a small bit of conscious effort in the beginning to re-learn this breathing pattern, it is well worth it to have this simple tool at your disposal to instantly alleviate stress and create more freedom in your swing with every golf club.
