In 1919, The Chicago Bears. An independent football club, was formed by George Halas. In 1920, the Chicago Bears joined the National Football League (NFL), making their home in Chicago, Illinois. After the AFC and NFC divisions were set up by the NFL, the Chicago Bears joined the NFC’s central division in 1970, and eventually became part of the northern division in 2002.

The Chicago Bears has remained in the Halas family since it’s inception, currently owned by Virginia Halas McCaskey since the early 1980s. Micheal McCaskey is the Chariman and Jerry Angelo is the current General Manager, while Lovie Smith is Head Coach.

Prior to the introduction of the World Championship games, the Chicago Bears had won eight titles in their 42 year history (1921-63). The Bears have appeared in two Super Bowls (1985 and 2006) and have won once in 1985. Their lack of winning championships is not from an inability of trying, they have played in twenty-four playoff games since the early 1930s.

The famous Wrigley field was home to the Chicago Bears from 1921 until 1970, when their new stadium Soldier Field was built in 1971. This was their home field until a new Soldier Field was finished in 2003, (except for the 2002 season when they played at Memorial Stadium).

More than 30 Chicago Bear’s players have been inducted into the Football Hall of Fame, including head coach Mike Ditka (who also played Tight End in 1961-63). . Some of the more well-known inductees are linebacker Dick Butkus and running back Walter Payton.

The Chicago Bears gained national fame through the parodies performed by the Saturday Night Live television series in the 1980s, commonly repeating ‘Da Bears’ in their skits. The parodies were mostly centered on the inability of the Bear’s to win a championship. The Chicago Bears finally would shed this image in Super Bowl XX when the overwhelmingly defeated the Patriots 46-10.

Probably one of the most memorable ‘characters’ of the Chicago Bears was Defensive Tackle William “Refrigerator” Perry, also known as the ‘Fridge’. This 320-pound ’spectacle’ enlivened the fans when he barreled through the line as a blocker or carrying the ball. His large frame did well to support Payton as a blocker during the regular season.

When the Chicago Bears made their 2nd attempt at a super bowl trophy, they were 6-1/2 point underdog to Indianapolis. The final score was 29-17, Colts. This was the rainiest Super Bowl in History and although the Chicago Bears put forward their best game, they just could not pull it off, despite having a great regular season and strong showing in the Super Bowl.

On the other hand, sports books try to balance the betting by offering better value to those betting on football underdogs. Instead of paying $150 for the team to win, you receive that money for every $100 you bet.

Maybe you are so skilled at predicting the outcome of football games that you think you can pick four winners out of four matches. If so, you can opt to bet the parlay. In order to win, every team you pick on a card has to be victorious in their game. Parlay bets are harder to win but offer a much higher payout than any other type of bet.

Football betting tips for beginners:

•Bet one game a day: It can be really hard to limit your betting activity, especially if the bet you placed on any given Sunday is a losing one. However, making more than one bet as a rookie is a big mistake and you stand to lose a lot of money. Keep it to one game and you won’t find yourself chasing losses.

•Don’t take heavy favorites: Make sure you only make what are known as good value bets. There might be a dominant team out there, but the book makers know it just as well as you do. You should never bet more than twice what you could win, even if you think the outcome of a game is a given. Football is unpredictable, and a loss on a bad value bet can really set you back!

•Avoid really close spreads: At least for those starting out, good sports betting strategy says to avoid close spreads. It’s better to take less money on a straight up win.

If you own a football or baseball team, you gotta have one.A new stadium is practically a necessity to most owners… lots of luxury boxes, high-end restaurants, exclusive corporate seats, etc.  If they don't have a stadium that's competitive, they can't compete on the field.That's the rallying cry.

People are tired of it and they're saying so.Fifteen NFL franchises have new, or vastly refurbished, stadiums since 1999.Jerry Jones new stadium in Arlington, Texas, dubbed the "Jones-mahal" locally, opens at a cost of over a billion dollars.Not milion… billion… with a B.Will it justify the cost?

Mark Oristano, author of A SPORTSCASTER’S GUIDE TO WATCHING FOOTBALL, isn’t so sure.

"Texas Stadium, the Cowboys home since 1971, was in disrepair, but a lot of that was the fault of the team as they let it run down knowing they were going to move.  Now, they have the big luxury boxes and the incredibly expensive seats, and they got the city of Arlington to pay a chunk of the cost, so yes, the Cowboys will win, at least financially.”

But Oristano, and others in the sports biz, think the fans, and the cities, tend to be losers.

"I have a good friend who was a Cowboys season ticket holder for a generation," says Oristano, "and when he saw what it would cost him at the new stadium for personal seat licensces, one of the world's greatest ripoffs, and the ticket charge on top of that, he said the heck with it.  He told me he could send his three kids to expensive colleges for what Cowboys tickets would cost, and it just wasn't worth it.”

Will the Cowboys stadium be full on opening day? Of course.  Will they keep coming back?It might, since football only has a handful of schedule dates each season.  But that's part of the problem.The city of Arlington put millions into the new stadium, but it's not a project that is going to create jobs, no matter how full the stadium schedule is.And even in good economic times, the question should be asked whether cities should put tax dollars, paid by all citizens, in projects of private business where only a handful of people will be able to take advantage.

Look at the new Yankee and Met stadia in baseball, where those $2500 dugout seats are empty every game.Loyal fans of the middle class are pretty much priced out of the picture these days.  And that's the real tragedy of it all.

One of the most historic tracks in racing is also one of the most popular among drivers, fans and the media. Year after year, Richmond International Raceway puts on the best short track show, and arguably the best racing anywhere. Why? Richmond’s unique, 3/4 mile D shaped oval layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers’ skill playing a major role in winning. In the words of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series icon Rusty Wallace, those characteristics help make racing at the track and the experience fans have while visiting, simply “perfect”.

The raceway features 14° banking on the turns, 8° banking on the front stretch and 2° banking on the back stretch. The front stretch is 1,290 feet in length and the back stretch is 860 feet long.

In October of 1946 driving an open-wheel car, Ted Horn wins the first race at the raceway, then named the Atlantic Rural Exposition Fairgrounds, over a 1/2 mile dirt track. Being asked to be the photographer for a wedding is a big responsibility.If you’ve been approached to do it as a friend, or maybe asked to do it as a professional, here are 5 great tips to do the job right.

This tips are coming from first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer.You could be a seasoned pro, or you could be an amateur, but by following these tips, you will do the job smoothly without second guessing yourself.You will be ready for whatever may happen.

Our first tip is a simple thing you can do and that is to have the couple and the families go and make a shot list.When you know the day will be hectic and chaotic, doing this will help you get the family and group shots later on in the day more smoothly.Imagine how wonderful it will be to just go down your list and know that you aren’t leaving anything out.

The second tip on our list is to not delete any shots.  In this day and age of digital cameras, most photographers use them.Great as they are, they might tempt you to delete a shot they may like that you don’t since it is so easy to do.Don’t bother even peeking at the previews.What you think may be a great photo, can differ widely in what the couple considers a great photo.You know what, they might like all those un “professional” shots you take.

For the the third tip, make sure you get candid shots during and after the wedding.A good photographer isn’t one who just takes the standard basic shots, like family shots, typical wedding shots, or whatever is the usual.  But they will also try and capture the emotions of the day through the shots of all the people that were there.It could include things that don’t go perfectly, like a flower girl not wanting to walk down the aisle or the ring bearer making a wrong turn.  Every shot counts.

The fourth tip is which is often overlooked is to make sure you have several cameras and other equipment as backup.  Do you even want to imagine having a camera stop working halfway through the day.  Plan for anything that could go wrong.Being prepared with more equipment will ensure that you avoid that awkward moment of not being able to finish the rest of the day because of a broken camera.

Finally, practice your lighting as well. The difference between the lighting in the church and the outside reception can throw you a curve ball, so just practice for all different lighting situations. Think about seeing if you can go to the locations of the big day and look for the best spots to take pictures as well as study the lighting needs.

Doing these 5 tips will help you immensely.  It will prepare you for whatever might go wrong, it will prepare you for capturing what goes right, and it will prepare you to help contribute to this wonderful day by being the best photographer you can be.  Take it from my years of experience as a San Diego photographer.
