Ant Information

Ants are social insects, and are related to wasps. Ants live in groups, building nests that can sometimes become very large. Ants divide the labor of the colony into different jobs according to a social hierarchy. Ants can be found in many different types of ecosystem. They are also a common insect pest, causing painful bites and other types of damage.

Ants are social insects, which means that they live together in large groups, dividing labor according to different jobs. The queen lays eggs to produce more ants for the colony. Workers gather food for the other ants to eat, build and repair the nest, and tend to the ant larvae. Soldiers guard the nest from predators, attacking other insects and sometimes even larger animals. Ant colonies can become very large, with some colonies containing millions of ants. Most ant colonies are much smaller, though.

There are many different types of ants, and some are considered pests. The most common of these in the US are fire ants, carpenter ants, and pavement ants. Fire ants are a serious problem in parts of the Southern US. They have a painful bite and build large mounds that can be difficult to get rid of.

Carpenter ants are less aggressive and like to eat wood. If they get into a house, they can cause damage similar to termites. Pavement ants get their name because they often live in pavements. These ants often get into kitchens or other parts of the home.

Ants are common insects that live in large groups. They have a social hierarchy in which responsibilities for the colony are divided among different jobs. Ants are beneficial animals, but can also be pests. Their bites can be painful, and if they get into your house they can sometimes cause serious damage.
