Surfing has always been a popular pastime in semi-tropical and tropical areas and Hawaii is world famous for its volcanoes, luaus, pristine beaches and of course, the surfers. Suddenly, an old style of surfing which is known as paddleboarding has suddenly become new again. Many surfers are hitting the waves.

The sport of stand-up paddleboarding is by no means new to those who reside around tropical areas such as Hawaii as this way of surfing has taken place since the nineteen sixties. It was first started when those boys of Waikiki roamed the beaches with their surfboards, gawking at the tourists who were trying to surf for the first time. Rather than miss out on the fun and action, they simply grabbed their cameras, a outrigger paddle and their surfboards and headed out on the ocean to where the tourists were getting their beginner lessons in surfing.

Back in the sixties, the Beach Boys of Waikiki would take pictures of the tourists trying to surf. This type of surfing became known as SUP, and was also implemented by professional surf instructors as a way to show and teach a group of people that were just learning how to surf. The SUP was beneficial on the water as in the beginning years it was used as a safety measure.

This action by the boys of Waikiki certainly saved grace as well as the lives of many people. The art of SUP became standard as with the heat and calm waters, many surfers hit the beach with their paddles and boards in tow. This style of surfing did not need fifty foot waves or any type of wave at all, one was to simply use the paddle to propel themselves across the calm waters of the ocean.

There are many competitions held every year all around the world. These contests can get very competitive and the contestants are judged on their performance and skill. These contests bring out hundreds of viewers and are a great form of entertainment.

Competition is very fast paced and starting to take the world by storm. Many people think that it is a new sport when in fact, it is not. It is a great way for those who wish to strengthen their whole body. Many people are using Stand Up Paddle Boarding as a way to keep fit and have fun while doing so.

Competitions are held yearly in this sport and it can be an expensive hobby for those who are just beginning to learn to surf. Special care is taken with the equipment as to prolong its life. Equipment bags for both the surfboard and paddle are available for purchase. If you are just beginning in the sport of surfing, why not give stand up paddle boarding a try as this type of sport is on the rise and will be with us for years to follow.

There are more than just a few famous beaches in New England. Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine are full of scenic seashores. Sorry, Vermont, your lakes are nice but no Oceanside locales here. Both residents and visitors can enjoy loads of beautiful pieces of the New England coastline.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Maine is Old Orchard Beach. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean in the southern portion of the state and about a two hour drive from Boston, Old Orchard Beach offers up a seven mile long stretch of beach that is dotted with traditional New England beach houses, bed and breakfasts, and condominiums. The town itself is home to myriad restaurants, clam shacks, souvenir shops, and even a famous Ferris Wheel.

If you drive north from Hampton Beach, New Hampshire on Route 1A for about fifteen minutes or so you will pass beautiful beach homes overlooking the Atlantic while on your way to Rye Beach. The beach itself is doesn’t have the surrounding commercial development of its neighbors Hampton and Salisbury beaches. Therefore, it is an ideal spot for those looking for a quiet beautiful seashore experience.

Cape Cod in Massachusetts is home to numerous beautiful beaches. Perhaps the best place to start for newcomers to the area is to visit Cape Cod National Seashore. Here the beach-lover will discover Marconi Beach (named after the famous inventor.) It affords sweeping views of the Atlantic and Cape Cod Bay. You may even spot a seal or two if you’re lucky.

Rhode Island certainly has its share of lovely beach areas. Among the most popular is Scarborough State Beach located in Narragansett. This beach is made up of North Beach and South Beach. Both have their own picnic spots with tables, observation towers and pavilion. A visit to any Rhode Island beach is not complete until you have tried the local specialty, the clam cake.

Between Bridgeport and New Haven Connecticut, beach-lovers and nature lovers will find Silver Sands State Park. In addition to swimming and picnicking, visitors can walk across a tombolo (sandbar) during low tide and reach Charles Island. Not only is it home to a bird sanctuary, especially for herons and egrets, but allegedly is the resting place of Captain Kidd’s buried treasure.

This list only scratches the surface of the famous beach New England has to offer. There are literally hundreds more, small and large, up and down the shoreline. Any time you come across a nice secluded beach area that overlooks the ocean during sunset, you can tell people that you found another of those hundreds.

You are allowed to learn surf ski on one of them famous beaches. We have a good surf ski technique that we would love to let you know about.

Surf the Bahamas

The practice of riding ocean waves while standing or kneeling on a board began with the ancient Polynesian culture. Mark Twain witnessed the aboriginal peoples of Hawaii surfing in 1866, but perhaps the first instance of Europeans seeing the sport was in Tahiti in 1767. There are several variations now, of course. Some surfers use longboards, some use tinyboards, others like paddleboarding and the purists like to stick to body surfing, where there is no board at all.

Surfers like big swells, the size of which is determined by two elements. When wind blows along an open surface of water, building up a swell, it is called the wind’s fetch. When the strength of the wind and fetch are both strong, a large swell is created. Therefore, powerful oceanic winds coming off the Pacific and Atlantic provide excellent conditions for surfing. Of course the surface beneath the sea also plays a large part in the size and shape of swells. Sandy seabeds can change on a weekly basis, and this is where advanced technology makes surf forecasting possible. Satellite imagery and mathematical graphing help researchers map the size and direction of swells for surfers, boaters, and other water sport enthusiasts.

The Bahamas are situated in the Atlantic Ocean just southeast of the Florida panhandle and directly north of Cuba. The 29 islands, 661 cays and 2387 islets that make up the Bahamas, plus its location directly on the Atlantic Ocean make it a haven for surfers. The long expanse of water allows the opportunity for a large fetch, and the rocky topography means frequent waves and large swells. In addition, east coast regions are notorious for receiving heavy winter swells. Low pressure cells from out at sea and are kept immobile by slow moving high – also called the anticyclone. The fetch becomes short, but since the anticyclone has been generating slow power, the swell becomes larger.

The topography immediately beneath the breaking wave is the most important aspects of its shape. Natural and artificial reefs can mean the difference between a flat, irregular surf venue and a reliable favourite. Unfortunately the consistency of the seabed can also mean the difference between a minor or major injury if thrown off a board. When a surfer falls while riding a wave, the force of the water will toss them downwards. If the seabed is rocky, the injury can be quite serious and even fatal. Low tide produces an even greater risk.

The Bahamas offers a tropical climate, long beaches, epic swells, friendly people and beautiful scenery. For experienced surfers, the islands are a great place to practice a favourite hobby. For the newbie surfer, it may be a good idea to stay close to the shore and avoid those 2387 rocky islets.

All surfers each have their own one of a kind style of surfing, and each requires a specific type of surfboard which will meet his very own surfing needs.

All surfers each have their own one of a kind style of surfing, and each requires a specific type of surfboard which will meet his very own surfing needs. Thus, the many different styles as well as shapes of surfboards. Although they are available in various designs, they more or less still fall into a number of main categories, all according to dimension and functionality. The 7 types of surfboards that are widely used today are shortboards, longboards, funboards, bodyboards, fish, gun, and hybrid.

• Shortboards
Often known as ‘thruster’, the shortboard is made for speed. Even though most surfers find paddling on a surfboard tougher than on other type of board, skilled surfers would prefer to use them, specially during competitions, due to their speed plus power. Shortboards are generally under 7 feet long.

• Longboards
Also known as ‘cruisers’ or ‘logs’, longboards, which can be found at eight to twelve feet long, are more best for those still practicing the sport activity. Its length, 20-inch width, and 2.25-inch thickness enable simple and easy paddling and catching waves. The longboard is in fact the oldest among the other designs of surfboards.

• Funboards
A funboard is a lot like a longboard, but with less volume. Its length of around six to eight feet still make space for easy paddling and catching any type of wave. Funboards are perfect for surfers who are looking to make a transition to smaller board yet still require the stability as well as maneuverability provided by a longboard.

• Bodyboards
The bodyboard is more often called the ‘boogie board’, and it’s also as enjoyable as sounds. A boogie board is small and almost rectangular in shape. They are the most affordable among all the other types of surfboards, and surfers of all ages can safely use them, especially kids.

• Fish
At a comparable length as a shortboard, or perhaps just a little bit smaller but a litte wider, a fish is preferably used on small mushy surf.

• Gun
Commonly found at eight to ten feet with a sharp nose and tail, the gun is built for maximum rail contact. A surfer who can ride the gun very well is able to control big drops as well as deal with high speeds. The gun is perfect for ‘gunning’ big, strong, and also steep waves.

• Hybrid
As the name indicates, the hybrid is a blend of one or more design elements of various surfboards. An outstandingly designed hybrid will take the stability provided with a longboard and combines it with all the maneuverability provided by that of a shortboard.

A surfer can get any type of surfboard from an online surfboard shop as well as buy surfboard online, all based on what his surfing style and requirements are. Surfers may even have custom surfboards designed for them to reveal their real surfing ability.

These Are The 7 Most Common Types Of Surfboards

The Australian Gold Coast is centred on the shore, theme parks, annual vacations and pleasure and irrespective of whether you choose to get your surfwear and surf clothing prior to deciding to travel maybe at the time you arrive one thing is definite – all visitors will ultimately be fitted and a well clothed member of the surf scene.

Whether you are interested in something as common as a set of men’s or even women’s boardshorts, an exciting new surfboard, surfwear, surf clothing, belts, jackets, wetsuits or maybe sandals, you are sure to discover it either in one of the various great Gold Coast retail outlets or perhaps on the world wide web. In actual fact you will find great online surf shops which provide all of your current most-loved designs including Aloha, Stussy, Reef as well as Elwood only to name just a few.

Surfing Australia wide is a valuable part in the local customs and plenty of people today by choice relocate to regions much like the Australian Gold Coast so that they can pull on the wetsuit and then journey with their surf boards over through the break in advance of seeking the ideal wave to carry them back into the coast.

Extraordinarily enough it was not till the 1950’s that surfing grew to becomte absolutely fashionable internationally. Best selling group the Beach Boys began to perform music on the subjects of their experiences, pictures were put together, literature published and soon an obvious beach in addition to surf community appeared accompanied by a diversity of surfwear, surf goods and surf clothing.

At this time surf plus surfing items are available throughout the world, they are just plain self evident through the beachside areas but in addition have a relatively healthy following around local places which are some hours from the closest beachfront.

Without doubt evidently there isn’t really any avoiding the sizeable fixation on surfing lifestyles. Through the early days from the Beach Boys the idea basically took two or three short years to explode surfwear away from a nearly undiscovered field directly into regular High-street suppliers. This shifted to the actual beach cities were beach locations were brimming with beach lovers and where they could not surf, they might operate in surfing fashions and dreamed of taking on the surf.

It will not make a difference wherever you tour you can discover surfwear available to buy and being traded globally. Thes days it goes clearly beyond the straightforward T-Shirts plus bathers to at this time comprise almost everything from sexy bikinis to scarves, sunglasses, socks, watches plus under garments.

There’s a plethora of suppliers which provide an expanding collection of surfwear and surfing products. Several of the much bigger and even more globally well known brandnames feature:

Billabong clothes which extends back to the early 1970’s is about the worlds most identified designs. With the turn of the century Billabong expanded directly into the international marketplaces and it has ever since become a serious participant in the design and also the distribution associated with surf specific merchandise from Australia into the furthermost corner on the earth.

Rip Curl came to life by the southern region of Victoria in the now famous holiday town of Torquay and initially ran from a compact garage making surfboards in order to meet the local demand. During the 70’s they developed to producing wetsuits and the remainder of the tale is history. At present Rip Curl crafts and stocks a number of surfing products and non surfing promotional goods.

Roxy was launched on to the market during the early 1990’s and is now thought of as the top product for busy young girls. Roxy is known as a trademark which is maintaining growth and provides a large product selection that consists of everything from bathing suits to pencil cases and shirts.

Charlie Lindsay is passionate about writing, he writes audio books, blog content, newspaper articles and journal reports.A typical Queenslander, Charlie Lindsay presently is located on the AustralianGold Coast where he reports the regions hotels, motels in addition to other vacation accommodations.

Where ever the public swim there needs to be someone qualified in the life guard profession. This can be a great job for students to do during the summer to help earn some extra money or can make a very interesting career.

It is essential to be a fully competent swimmer and be fit and healthy. Before you can become a lifeguard you will have to successfully complete a course. These courses are normally held at local swimming centers. There are different tests depending if you want to work at a pool or on the beach.

Many people choose not only to train in being a life guard but also obtain qualifications which mean they can also teach swimming to children and adults. This can help you be better paid and is preferred by employers as you will be multi skilled and more valuable to the team.

This career can be both dangerous and stressful. You will need to make sure the public remain safe and should any problems arrive, be prepared to put your life at risk to save others. Even quiet shifts will be demanding as you have to be constantly aware of the entire goings on around you.

If you choose to work at a beach you will only really be asked to work whilst it is light enough for people to use the sea. There are extra pressures working at the coast as the sea itself is temperamental, as well as the creatures which live in it.

Swimming pool positions can vary and give constant work between the hours of six in the morning and ten at night. Since swimming pools are open during the entire year you can expect to work during all holidays except Christmas Day and New Year.

The easiest way into this profession is by getting an assistant job at your local leisure center. Most employers will want to encourage you to work up in the ranks. Often you can have your certificate funded this way if you go on to qualify. It is a great step in an occupation which could lead to management or fitness training.

It is possible to become trained from sixteen years old for indoor and outdoor pools, and eighteen for beach employment. Contact your local center for further details.

A Few Water Sports To Suit All

Author: Damian Papworth

Most people all over the planet get involved in some shape or form in sports and different sporting activities. Whether they are playing them at the highest level or supporting them at the highest level, they are all somehow linked in their passions for all of the competition and activity that comes along with them. One of the popular side facets of sport are water sports, which are largely more recreational than competitive. Here are some of the more popular types.

When it comes to water sport, what could be a better place to have this fun than the wide ocean. This is the largest playground in the world and you will find a host of different things that you can try here. Of course I guess the most popular of all water based sports will be swimming. This is something that more or less every person does in some capacity and can be done anywhere where there is a deep enough water source to enjoy.

I would say that one of the more popular sports that people try out on the ocean would certainly be surfing. This is one of the most popular sports for any beach goer to get involved with, and is particularly popular in places like the US and Australia where they have both the beaches and the weather to be able to offer up the perfect conditions. If you are more keen on something like body boarding then this is also a great fun activity to partake in.

You are also able to rev up the power involved and actually start using a piece of equipment that offers up an engine to really bring you to some higher speeds. When there are choppy waters about there is nothing better than getting out on a jet ski and really making some waves of your own. In addition to this you could even take it a step further and indulge in some power boating as well!

If you move away from the sea then the fun certainly does not stop there. The river wild is also home to some great fun. Most particularly, you could try some water rafting. This can range from simple and calm to downright dangerous and chaotic, but either way it is always great fun.

If you are wanting to stay in total control yourself then you can also try a single person kayak. Here you can choose to either plod along and enjoy all the surrounding scenery or really push yourself down some rapids.

These are just some of the popular water sports that you could enjoy!

If you want to find out more about gold coast surf board hire, you can find them online. You also can find their store that has a water camera and more inventory.
