Choose The Right Shoes And Get A Lower Body Workout


Marcia Kilgore is an ex personal trainer who found that she just couldn’t fit visits to the gym into her busy lifestyle. The difference between Marcia and the rest of the world is that she decided to do something about it. Working together with the London South Bank University (LSBU) she came up with the concept of Fitflops – a range of specially designed fitness shoes and sandals.

These fitness shoes have a specially designed curved sole which incorporates a “microwobbleboard” and is subdivided into three zones. The microwobbleboard effect is produced by using materials of different densities in each of these zones. A high density material is used for the heel section. This helps to cushion against impact shocks whilst walking. The central zone is made from a low desnity material and the toe section is manufactured from a medium density material.

This construction style means that, when walking normally, the muscles are in use for a longer period of time. The activity time is prolonged by as much as 16%. This means that you will be toning your legs and trimming down the size of your bittocks with every step you take – even although you’re just walking normally.

You can increase calf, leg and buttock muscle activity, improve your posture, improve muscle tone and burn up extra calories by wearing Fitflops when you walk. It almost sounds too good to be true, but you can tone your legs and reduce your buttock size just by walking about normally – as you would be doing in your daily routine anyway.

After extensive research and trials at LSBU, the Fitflop range was launched in the UK in 2006. They were an instant success and many people even had to go on a waiting list to get their Fitflops. As you might guess from the name, the range initially consisted of flipflop sandals. However, in response to customer demand, the range was enlarged and now, not only is there a very wide selection of different colors and styles of sandals, but boots and clogs are also available. Both men and women’s Fitflop styles are available and they are now available in the US.

If you struggle to find time to vist the gym, or if you have difficulty motivating yourself to take exercise (many of us struggle with this), then Fitflops might be a good option. Wear them in place of your normal shoes and walk about normally to get the benefit of a lower body workout without modifying your daily routine.
