Go Tigers! Auburn University Bank Checks
Are you bank checks plain and boring? Are you an alumni, or even just a fan, of Auburn University? If you are, then you should consider carrying Auburn University personal bank checks.
A public university in Auburn, Alabama, Auburn University contains one of the most popular college sports’ teams. On February 1, 1856 it was chartered and in 1892 it went on to become the first four-year coeducational school in Alabama. It’s name was officially changed to Auburn University in 1960 and it is widely referred to as “Auburn.” It also holds the distinction as being one of the few American universities that is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant research center.
During the Civil War, the college was closed because most of the students and faculty left to enlist in the army. The campus itself was used as a training ground for the Confederate Army, and the “Old Main” building was used as a hospital for Confederate wounded. A cannon lathe used for the manufacture of cannons for the Confederate Army and recovered from Selma, Alabama, was presented to Auburn in 1952 by brothers of Delta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. Today, it sits on the lawn next to Samford Hall.
Until 1964, Auburn was racially segregated like most schools in the south, with only white students being admitted to the college. However, the integration went well and the first African-American student was admitted in 1964.
Today, Auburn has over 23,000 students and a faculty of almost 1,200 at the main campus in Auburn. There are also over 6,000 students at the Auburn University Montgomery satellite campus.
For sports, Auburn is one of the charter members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They are called the Tigers, and they compete in Division I-A of the NCAA and in the Western Division of the SEC. Auburn competes well in football, swimming and diving, women’s basketball, baseball and women’s golf. Dr. George Petrie, Auburn’s first football coach, chose the school’s official colors of orange and navy blue.
Gene Chizik currently coaches the football team. Auburn was coached by “Shug” Jordan to a 10-0 record in 1957 and was awarded the AP National Championship. The teams were also recognized in 1913, 1914, 1958, 1983, 1993, and 2004. Pat Sullivan in 1971 and Bo Jackson in 1985 both won the Heisman Trophy. Even John Heisman, the Trophy’s namesake, coached at Auburn from 1895 until 1899. The football team calls Jordan-Hare Stadium home. It has a capability of seating of 87,451 which makes it the 9th-largest on-campus stadium in the NCAA.
