The Bag from Hell!
Go on, give it a kick! I was surrounded by high ranking black belts in the garage of my instructor to be. Hanging from the ceiling was a grim and silent bag.[l:4:J]
This should be simple, its only a bag, Im gonna impress the heck out of these bozos! I mean, my school is made of good kicks. Its only a bag, eh?
I drew in breath and set my stance. I eyed the canvas thing, and studied my opponent. It looked to be about seventy pounds, not too tough, and I didnt notice that the ceiling had been re-enforced to support the bag.
Giving a mighty Kiai I launched my side kick. This was my strongest kick, and that bag should hit the ceiling like a duck launched by a catapult! My foot struck the side of that grey bag, and not much happened.
Well, maybe a little bit of something happened. The bag bounced all of an inch, and I nearly fell on the floor, and a mighty shock raced up my leg and impacted upon my spine. And all those high ranking belts simply rubbed their faces and concealed their smiles.
My composure a gone thing, I looked at the bag in shock, and then stepped up to it. I felt the thing and asked, What did you put in here? I looked at the man who would end up being muy instructor, and he just grinned a quirky grin.
A two dollar duffel bag was my first kicking bag, and I filled it up with free sawdust. I spent hours bouncing the thing on cement to pack it, and I kicked it until my feet were fair compacted. In my mind, I knew what a bag was.
Bob, the fellow would become my instructor, however, was a sheer genius when it came to bags. He filled his first bags with sawdust, and he packed them until they were meaty to the foot, just as I had done. Then he began adding a cup of sawdust every seven days, and the thing became a footbruiser extraordinaire!
Think thats tough? Nope. His next invention was the real deal, and where he showed his true genius.
He cut circles out of newspapers and packed them into the bag. All the news thats fit to print…The Daily Kick! Thats the facts behind the toughest bag to ever knock me on my butt!
