The Many Types of Tanning Lotions
There are three kinds of indoor tanning lotion. Each lotion works differently to achieve the same result in slightly different ways. Basically the lotions are to help during the indoor tanning process. Accelerators, bronzers, and tingle lotions are the three main types of indoor tanning lotions.
The most common type of tanning lotion is known as an accelerator. It uses a moisturizer in the formula to keep the skin hydrated during the tanning session. It is known that moist skin is better at melanin production than dry skin and baking the skin under high intensities of ultraviolet rays causes the skin to dry out.
Tingle lotions are also used to improve the speed of tanning but by increasing the blood flow to the skin. This causes the user to feel a tingle in their skin and is not for first time tanners who are not experienced with this type of lotion. It can cause skin problems such as swelling and irritation.
Then we have the bronzer which is simply a formula used to add color to the skin immediately. The color is a fake tan of course but the instant results allows some beginners to appear more tan than they already are if they are self conscious about being too pale.
More than just providing immediate color to the skin so the tanner doesn’t feel self conscious around other tanners, it actually does serve a more functional purpose. The coloration absorbs and redistributes the light rays to help the resulting tan come out more evenly.
Each individual tans differently and that is why it is important to know what to look for when trying to pick the best tanning lotion. Consulting the people at a tanning salon will tell you a lot about what indoor tanning lotion is right the situation. After that it is a matter of trial and error until you get it right.
