Want A Good Argument, Here’s How

Many years ago when the children were still nippers, my husband and I decided it would be a brilliant idea to invest in a swing slide.   We researched various play systems for them as we wanted to ensure that they got years of use out of the play equipment.

It was a mammoth job trying to ensure we got the right playset that was suitable for both our 7 year old and our 2 year old.  A lot of garden play equipment is absolute rubbish and would never have lasted 5 minutes, let alone 5 years.

Some of the cheaper ones looked absolutely rubbish and didn’t look safe enough. We decided to order a wooden playset and it was delivered by courier the next day.

I can still remember the day we assembled the playset. It was Easter weekend and unusually for England, the weather was absolutely boiling hot.   In fact it was a bit too hot for being out in the garden constructing a playset.

Although the instructions were very clear and precise, my husband and I still managed to have quite a few disagreements. You know these boys, they are adamant they are right, but most of the time they know nothing! It takes a woman to oversee everything and ensure bits and pieces go in their rightful place. If my husband was left to his own devices, the slide would have been attached to something it really shouldn’t have been and there is no way the kids could have used the swing as it wouldn’t have been safe enough!

In our house, it would be truthful to say that everytime the hammer and screwdrivers make an appearance, we somehow manage to have a huge disagreement.    We both get really stressed out and he never listens to me, or bothers to follow the instructions.

We have had some huge rows about DIY, but to be honest I absolutely love a great argument.   It gets the blood pumping and gives us a chance to give our lungs a good workout.

My husband is terrible when he is doing any sort of DIY and he huffs and puffs for England.    The older he gets, the worse he seems to get and so now whenever I need anything doing, I try to just get on with it myself!!
